Jim Kelly - Fuji 32 'Excalibur'
Jim Kelly writes about his Fuji 32 :
"My name is Jim Kelley. I bought the Fuji 32 that was for sale in Portsmouth NH. I have had it since October '97. This year I did a little coastal cruising with "Excalibur" in the Mass Bay area. She saw some winds up to 40 miles an hour and 14' seas in June and 60 mile an hour winds in a 45 minute to an hour squall that blew over us in Essex Bay.
I have a lot of work left to do to it. So far I have rewired the cabin and running lights, installed a nav station, distribution panel, new batteries, new engine controls ( I moved them up to behind the wheel by building a teak box that the wheel shaft goes through. The gauges are on top and the new single lever engine control is on the side), new engine harness, new transmission, new holding tank/macerator/hoses, sanded and varnished the interior teak/floor, removed the oven (I plan on replacing it with a propane stove top and microwave). I still need to; strip the gelcoat off the bottom and interprotect 1000/2000/bottom paint next spring, remove the engine and barrier coat the bilge/paint the engine, add radar, paint the hull-cabin top-deck, new sail covers/UV/dodger, varnish the teak, and get things like a dingy, self-tailing winches, cockpit cushions, etc.
I hope to get some info about the boat. Mine didn't come with much paper work like a brochure or manuals or specification sheets.
Some highlights of Excalibur include a Pisces 27 hp diesel engine and a Sailor Boy refrigeration system. The teak is in good condition except for the bow where I need to replace a small section that was damaged when I bought it. The bulkhead in the main salon suffered water damage from the port light in the head that was so severe that I decided to paint it white (an idea I got from a Shannon 38). It came out great.
Anyway, here are some pictures of the outside in light air.
